Charenton-le-Pont

The Church

Saint-Pierre
This church was built between 1857 and 1859 by architect Claude Naissant, to replace the old church of Saint-Pierre de Conflans. In 1882, following disputes between the commune of Paris and the Catholic clergy, City Hall had engraved on the façade the inscriptions "Liberty, equality, fraternity" and "communal property". In 1916 two new aisles were built on both sides of the building. They are connected by an ambulatory which goes around the back of the building.

Saint Pierre

Chapelle de Conflans
The Chapel was built during the years 1843-1867 by the congregation of the sisters of the sacred heart. In 1911, after the departure of the Sisters, the buildings hosted the minor seminary of Paris until 1970. Now it is the property of the diocese of Créteil. It has been renovated during the years 2002-2004.

The organs

Saint-Pierre
The organ was built by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll in 1891 and inaugurated by Charles Marie WIidor. In 1941 John Reinburg renovated the instrument, adding a Plein Jeu. In 1998 Adrien Maciet carried out a restoration and removed the Plein Jeu of Reinburg.
Chapelle
The organ was built by Cavaillé-Coll in 1866 for the Petit Séminaire of Paris. It was moved to Charenton-le-Pont in 1911, probably by Charles Mutin, who added a Cor de nuit to the Swell, extended the pedal from 20 to 30 notes and made a couple récit/grand orgue 'en octaves graves'. In 2008, the organ was restored by Yves Fossaert without making important changes to the existing instrument.
